3 Useful local projects to help you build your staff and volunteer team

As a development officer, I recently attended the GET (Guidance Employment Training) Network meeting and was really impressed with the wealth of support for employers, employees, volunteers and potential volunteers/employees. For smaller organisations, these could be great ways to look at increasing the diversity of your team, supporting training and developing the people you work with.

  1. Free adult education training

Cambridgeshire Skills – Adult Learning

The threshold income to qualify for free learning has increased significantly to take into account rising costs, a good variety of courses are offered such as counselling, digital skills and gardening for people living in Cambridgeshire.

Free for adults aged over 19, who are: residents of Cambridgeshire or Peterborough, who have lived in the EEA for at least 3 years, are unemployed and in receipt of benefits, or earning less than £30,491.

  1. Paid Internships

Growth Work with Skills

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) offers a paid internship program through its “Growth Works with Skills” initiative. This program provides opportunities for residents to gain hands-on experience and develop the skills necessary for success in the job market. Paid internships are for 13 weeks and can be open to all age groups, you can sign up to be a host for an internee.

3. Digital Badges

Region of learning

Region of Learning is championing digital badges, working with employers colleges, schools and learning and training providers across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to encourage more local people to explore digital badges as a way to evidence their skills.

Digital badges are a flexible, contemporary way to build evidence of skills beyond formal education and recognise skills that most employers want, but formal education and qualifications can’t quantify.

They can be shared easily online via social media and digital CVs, helping to raise both the profile of the earners of badges and employers.
