Edgar Kahn passed away on 23rd January 2022

Edgar Kahn was an American law Professor, Council and Speech writer to Robert F Kennedy, Co-founder of the Antioch School of Law and the ‘Creator of Timebanking’.

Georgina Corely, coordinator of St Neots Timebank said:

 

“I had the greatest of pleasure and honour to meet Edgar in person. We discussed how our TimeBank had started and grown to its popularity. He was interested in adding our TimeBank to his next book, yet to find out if that happened. We met at the Timebanking UK’s 20th anniversary. He was a great character and I’m so pleased to have had the opportunity to meet him. A wonderful Man.”

 

 

Georgina also informed us of an exciting opportunity for someone to help run the St Neots Timebank:

VACANCY
The time has come that I hope to finally retire for the 2nd time. I have spent a wonderful 10 years helping so many people (with your help, of cause) The time seems to have flown by. We are looking for someone to take over the Coordinators work for St Neots TimeBank.

I’m not leaving yet, still here to help and will be around to train anyone interested. It’s a voluntary position and at present, due to Covid, not too many hours a week. However, it needs someone to re-build the TimeBank to its full service. Re-start our popular Saturday coffee morning events at the Church hall each one with a different theme (Pamper Day, Garden bonanza, Easter Bonnets, bring and buy etc etc). The friend’s group also needs to re-open – a time for members to meet and greet each other (was held at Kwellers).

The main point of TimeBanking is taking people’s calls that are needing help and pairing them with another member who has the skill and time to help.

We still have a few ‘Advisory members’ that will be there to assist. Managing the Tempo Vouchers (see below) and our Jigsaw Library. Once fully up to power it was rare, in fact unknown not to find someone to help.

The position is voluntary and running costs are from grants and donations.

Helping so many has been so rewarding with no regrets from starting it up in 2012. During the 10 years we have grown to 221 members and 25 organisations having helped others for 12,120 hours this includes referrals from HDC, Lakeside and Care Network.
