Hunts Forum Volunteer Award Winners 2024

Hunts Forum Volunteer Awards were back again this year to recognise the fantastic achievements and contributions that volunteers make across the region.

On Tuesday 16th July 2024, we held our annual ceremony at Hinchingbrooke Country Park and this year joined by Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, who handed out the awards.

A big thank you to everyone nominated as a ‘volunteer for recognition’ this year; we were overwhelmed to receive so many deserving entries.  After much deliberation, we’re delighted to reveal the three main award winners this year, including the new Trustee Award for long service, recognising someone’s continual service to an organisation.

Volunteer Awards

Gold–Ann and Keith Parker, CARESCO

Judge’s Comments: “Since 2019, they have been a dedicated volunteer for the organisation and an active member of the steering group, planning for the future. They consistently go above and beyond, willingly taking on rota shifts, assisting with collections and deliveries, covering for others, and providing essential long-term support for our delivery service. They have been a tremendous help during children’s visits and have also contributed by planning and being the quiz master at fundraising events.”

Silver – James Harding, Magpas Air Ambulance

Judge’s Comments: “He has donated hundreds of hours in a professional yet fun manner, with a keen eye for detail. He sets up stands and has learned extensively about the charity, enabling him to confidently represent it at events independently. Throughout the pandemic, he found innovative ways to fundraise, including producing artwork for the charity. He supports recruitment efforts by creating videos about the benefits of volunteering and spends time helping new volunteers acclimate.”

Bronze – Steve Davison, Huntingdon Gymnastic Club

Judge’s Comments: “His long-term contribution to the community-based gymnastics club includes volunteering as a coach five nights a week and over 12 weekends a year. He has served on the board of trustees for five years and has been involved with the organisation for over 14 years. He takes annual leave to attend competitions, supporting the entire organisation, and shares his extensive knowledge and experience with less experienced coaches.”

Rural Award

Winner – A represented for Vhari Russel, Creating Nature Corridors

Award category sponsored: Toni Hunter from Hunter IAS

Judge’s Comments: “Our winner established a charity dedicated to enhancing rural communities’ environment and well-being, demonstrating remarkable determination and commitment. This year, she has successfully “put it on the map” by doubling their challenging target. Her impressive ability to recruit and engage partner voluntary organizations and schools has been instrumental in achieving their goals.”

Young Volunteer of the Year Award

Winner Rosie Fox, Magpas Air Ambulance

Award category sponsored: Get Synergised – Rachel Hales

Judge’s Comment: “She excels at organising the office, enhancing team efficiency, and saving valuable time by managing collection tin monies. A dedicated supporter at events, she participates in everything from obstacle races to tree planting. She actively encourages community involvement, successfully raising £900 from a school cake sale. Additionally, she plans to organise CPR training to help others learn life-saving skills.”

Trustee Volunteer Award

Winner – Patricia Peek, Hemingford Hub

Award category sponsored: Gethyn Williams – Non-Profit Development

Judge’s Comments: “She has shown remarkable commitment and professionalism in helping the group become a registered charity and proudly achieving the Hunts Forum Good to Go Governance Mark. She provides invaluable support and guidance to all volunteers and has played a crucial role in developing and serving numerous community services. Her energy, enthusiasm, and passion drive her to support new projects that significantly impact her local community. She has a deep understanding of the most vulnerable and those in need of support.”
