Support before crisis

Huntingdon-based Cornerstone Care offers support to people who are dealing with unplanned pregnancies, they recognised there was more they could do besides ensuring families could talk through their choices at a critical time.

Knowing the needs arising with unplanned pregnancies, they increased their staff team, planned to purchase a property to use as temporary accommodation and extended their reach across Cambridgeshire. However, the small charity also needs to increase its capacity to grow its operations.

Solutions

Hunts Forum was able to support the growth of the organisation when it undertook the Good to Go, Governance Mark, supported a new member of staff to develop funding skills and knowledge and advised trustees on the implications of owning property for a charity.

Benefit One

· Funding has helped Cornerstone to increased outreach support

Benefit Two

· One-to-one development and networking improved the knowledge and skills of development worker

Benefit Three

· Trustees are supported in making decisions on significant property purchases which will have an impact on the lives of people dealing with the responsibilities of parenthood.

“I started working for Cornerstone Care in Confidence in Nov 2022. It was a new role, and I hadn’t worked in a Huntingdon-based charity before. Hunts Forum has been like gold dust. I have had 1 to 1 support with bid writing, which I hope will enable us to expand our services into Fenland. Also, I have gotten so much out of “Fuddies” the fundraising group. This has been informative and encouraging but also the catalyst linking several small local charities together as a peer-to-peer community. Thanks Kathy, and all at Hunts Forum.”
